Origins

The first signs of greyhounds were in temple drawings dating back 6000 BC in what is now Turkey.

Greyhounds in ancient Egypt were workshipped. The pharaos and Cleopatra kept greyhounds as pets. Later in Europe only the nobility could own greyhounds. The greyhounds first arrived in the U.S. with immigrants from the British Isles to help control the over population of crop destroying jack rabbits. Unfortunately in the early 1900’s greyhound racing was born in the U.S.
